Big Girl Bed!!

One of the things that has been looming over me for several months now is moving Laney into her big girl bed. Obviously we need the crib in a few months, and when that happens we don't want her to feel like the babies are stealing her bed. We have had bunkbeds to set up in Laney's room for months, but no mattresses to put on them. So yesterday morning, we loaded up and headed to IKEA with visions of mattresses dancing in our heads. Laney had so much fun there. She loved sampling all the toys in the kids' area, helping push the cart, and testing out the mattresses. As soon as we got there, something very fun happened. We ran into a fellow adoptive family whose blog we have followed. Their beautiful daughter is adopted from China and is five years old. It was so fun to visit with them and see them in real life. Check them out!

We picked out Laney's mattresses and then we picked out this baby doll big girl bed so that she and Laney could go night night side by side as big girls!!!
We spent all evening talking about her bed and getting her baby ready for night night. Laney wrapped her up in her blanket and sang her a song.
Then she covered her up and patted her tummy, and gave her lots of kisses.
We brought Laney's new doll bed into her room so that she could read her another story, sing her another song and put her to bed right next to her for the night. Laney was so so excited to be in her life size big bed.
We are not really sure what was going here. She was just "posing" for the camera?!?!
A little more conventional sleep position. Maybe you notice that she has flip flops on. Yep, she slept with them on!
Here's a picture of our big girl in the morning after a whole night's sleep in her big bed. She made it all night long with a brief moment of wakefulness at around 5. I went in to check on her then cause she was making some noises and half her body was in the baby bed next to her. I scooted her back and she fell right back to sleep. This morning I bought her a bed rail, so hopefully she won't be sharing her doll's bed anymore.

Laney went down for her nap in her big bed pretty easily. We read and rocked and she laid down and closed her eyes. Hopefully every bedtime will go as well as these have!

We are just about to embark on the transition to the big boy bed, for the same reason. Baby due in November. But just one. :)

The bed is due to be delivered this week and we'll pick out a mattress this weekend. I never even thought to bring Nicholas to the store and make it something of an "event." Good idea!

I'm glad this big step wasn't too difficult or traumatic for Laney or for you!
