One day last week, everyone woke up a little early from afternoon naps. Actually it is pretty rare that Laney even takes a nap, but she usually has some rest time in her room with books or in our room. It was only 90 degrees that day, so with everyone up at 3:30 I wanted to take advantage of the cooler weather. I realize how ridiculous it is to call 90 degrees "cooler," but this is Texas and that is the way it is.
We have Zoo passes, so I decided to load everyone up and try to get about an hour in at the zoo. It was so much fun. Laney and the twins were all in great moods the whole time. Sam and Laney shared the double stroller and Miles hung with me in the Bjorn (pun intended!)
We made it there by 4:00 and headed straight to see the elephants and hippos. I made an attempt at a picture with the elephant statue, but then Sam got really really interested in the dirt around him and would not look at me no matter what I did!

Laney was waving at the white tiger.

Then she heard a bird squawking and was very interested in finding out what it was. We went exploring, but never found the source.

Then we got to see the regular tiger. He was down there taking a bath.

Next stop, the bears. Laney and Sam's heads both followed the bear as we walked all across these rocks right in front of them.
Miles's head probably did too, but he is a little harder for me to observe.

After the bears, we got to see the Mommy Lions. They were really doing some talking/roaring. Laney, of course, took offense to their loudness and decided to: 1. Cover her ears and 2. Roar back at them.

Sam was sweetly content to sit in the stroller for our entire zoo trip.

This was Laney's hysterical reaction as we passed through the bird area. She told me it smelled bad and wouldn't unplug her nose until we were all clear of the stinky birds. This was her same reaction last weekend when Dolly ordered "stinky tofu" for dinner. She was not a fan of that smell either. Sweet Dolly quickly packed up her dinner in a to go box and spared Laney any further exposure. I guess we have American-
ized her pretty well if she can't stand the smell of stinky tofu. Maybe we should start planning our trip to Taiwan for sooner rather than later so that she can grab back some of that heritage!!!!

A trip to the zoo is always made complete with a train ride. This really was perfect. We were able to look at animals all the way up until closing time at 5, and then we got on the train to head back to the exit. No time wasted!!

Love this post!
I have so many memories of Ryley (barely 2 years old) riding on my shoulders while I pushed Lucy and Jack as newborns at the zoo. Makes you feel like you can do anything- huh?
