When I was growing up, on Valentine's Day, we always woke up to treats (usually a heart box of chocolates) at our spot at the breakfast table. I remember being so excited to run out and see what my mom and dad left for me. I want to take every chance we get to make sure our kids know how crazy about them we are. So, we decorated our table, tied balloons to their breakfast spots and set our some little treats for our little Valentines!
My mom and I decided that we wanted to get together for an ice cream sundae party to celebrate Valentine's Day!! Of course we called it the First Annual to insure that we have officially started a new tradition around here. Family, Ice Cream, Traditions....that's three off my top ten list!
Laney, in true Laney fashion these days, packed her entire Dora suitcase full of construction paper, tape, scissors and glue. The girls got right to work making Valentines, although Claire did come to the party bearing some fantastic homemade Valentines for each of us!
Jessica had an evaluation that she had to complete for something in Nursing School, so the brothers sat in as her subjects. They tested brilliant, of course!
Ice Cream time!!
The second that Johnny walked in the door, Miles wrapped himself around his legs and demanded his attention for the remainder of the evening.
One of Laney's very favorite foods is noodles. She always wants noodles if I ask for suggestions for dinner. A long long time ago, I got these chopstick trainers for the Goods and for Laney. She has recently developed a real interest in using the "easy chopsticks" every chance she gets!!

Happy Chinese New Year!!! We celebrated the Lunar New Year with our family last weekend. It was the weekend after our crazy snowy days, so I had no time to prepare for our party until the day of! Thank goodness Aunt Jenna and Uncle Colt were in town for the day checking out houses (yay!) and when they finished, they came over and helped me like crazy!!!! Chinese New Year is all about family, unity and togetherness, and we are so unbelievably grateful that we are surrounded by family that is ready to embrace this tradition of celebrating our sweet girl's heritage!!
The brothers were pretty excited about spending some time with GPK!
I saw these Fried Rice cupcakes in a cookbook that Grommy gave me a long time ago and thought then that I definitely wanted to try them for CNY. Todd helped me with the peas, carrots and ham cubes (green, orange and pink starbursts) and I made the "brocoli" out of green tootsie rolls, frosting and green sugar. With frosting covered rice crispies making the "rice" portion of the dish, they were really fun to put together, but not really the ultimate in taste treats!
Not sure what this giggle box was cracking up about, but looks like he was sitting with Bobbis and Aunt Jessa, so no wonder he was smiling!
We brought our awesome dragon puppet from Dolly out for some inspiration.
An out of order picture of Laney and Claire with their dessert! Grant kept telling Jess that it was okay for them to eat lots of cupcakes because they were so healthy with all these veggies!
